HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 7

Kuhn, Damron, Wright and Yeager)
Urging the Division of Highways to
Accelerate Construction of
the King Coal Highway (I- 73/74).
Whereas, There is a great need
for transportation infrastructure
across southern West Virginia to
facilitate intrastate and
interstate commerce; and
Whereas, Business and services
opportunities to southern West
Virginia will increase because of
the increased traffic flow
resulting from the construction of
this highway; and
Whereas, The economic growth
potential for southern West
Virginia will be greatly increased
because the vast productive
capacity of this area will be
reached by West Virginia's timber
and extractive industries; other
West Virginia industries will be
served by allowing economical
access to the wealthy markets as
close as two hundred fifty miles
away; and tourism will be served by
the inflow of visitors from those
markets; and
Whereas, Our state's
congressional delegation has
demonstrated the importance of this
highway for West Virginia by having
it included in new federal highway
legislation, and identifying federal funding to begin
construction of vital segments of
the highway in Mingo, McDowell and
Mercer Counties; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of
West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways
is urged to initiate actions to
accelerate construction of the King
Coal Highway; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the
Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the
Commissioner of the Division of
Highways, the Secretary of
Transportation and the Governor of
the State of West Virginia.
